01Before and after

“Always nice to see the before and after.”

Elite Rendering, on the Luton bungalow

Three houses that started out in old pebbledash. Drag across each photo to see the same wall before we started and after the last coat went on.

“Another before and after, same street as the last one. Hopefully a few more to follow.”

03Finishes

Six finishes, close up.

Render isn’t one thing. These close-ups are all from our own jobs, so you can see what each finish actually looks like on a wall.

Move across a sample to change the light. Low, side-on light is what shows a finish up.

  1. Close-up of a scraped monocouche finish either side of a render bead
    F1

    Scraped

    Weber monocouche · Enfield

Applied in one thick coat, then scraped back once it firms up, for an open, even texture.

  2. Close-up of white silicone render running to a clean edge at a grey window frame
    F2

    Silicone, limestone white

    K Rend · Wheathampstead

A fine, tight grain with the colour all the way through.

  3. Close-up of fine silicone render along a scaffold run, lit from the side
    F3

    Silicone over insulation

    EWI Pro · Stanmore

The same fine finish, on a meshed base coat over insulation board.

  4. Close-up of slate grey silicone render on a dormer
    F4

    Coloured silicone

    Slate grey · Tring

Silicone comes in colour as well as white. This one is a deep slate grey on a dormer.

  5. Close-up of a floated sand and cement wall, lit from the side by low sun
    F5

    Sand and cement

    Fassa MS20 · Watford

The traditional finish: floated flat, then painted.

  6. Close-up of white thin coat render stopping cleanly against dark vertical cladding
    F6

    Thin coat, against cladding

    Fassa · Harpenden

A clean stop where render meets cladding. The edges are where the care shows.

04How it’s built

What goes on the wall.

A render system goes on in layers, and an insulated one has one more underneath. This is the order we build it up in.

12345 1345
  1. 1

    Your wall

Brick, block or old pebbledash, prepared before anything goes on.

  2. 2

    Insulation board EWI only

Bonded and fixed to the wall, to keep the heat in.

  3. 3

    Base coat and mesh

Reinforcing mesh bedded into a base coat. It’s what stops cracks coming through.

  4. 4

    Primer

Seals the base coat, ready for the topcoat.

  5. 5

    Topcoat

The finish you see, in white or a colour. Hand applied or sprayed.

What we do

  1. 01

    Silicone and thin coat render

Fassa, K Rend, Baumit and EWI Pro systems, in white or a colour.

  2. 02

    External wall insulation

Insulation boards fixed to the outside of the house, then rendered over.

  3. 03

    Monocouche and scraped finishes

Weber and Eco rend, scraped back to an even, open texture.

  4. 04

    Sand and cement

The traditional way, for older houses, repairs and garden walls.

  5. 05

    Rendering over pebbledash

Old pebbledash prepared and rendered over, front, back or the whole house.

  6. 06

    Garden walls, steps and seating

Rendered retaining walls, steps and built-in seating, like the fire pit in Ascot.

  7. 07

    Plastering and dry lining

Inside the house, as well as out.

Builders and developers

Working alongside builders.

Plenty of our work comes through building firms: new builds, extensions and whole-house re-renders. We spray or hand apply, fit around the scaffold and the other trades, and take a wall from base coat to topcoat.
